... Wrapping it up

You have the rest of today to finish up your field reports and areas of specialization.

When you're done typing up you work, be sure to save it (obviously).

I'll explain the turn-in (UPLOAD) procedure at the end of class.

Enjoy chillaxin' for the weekend ;)

Mechanical engineers design many of the things we take for granted. From cars to planes, boats, all the way to the manufacturing plants that make them, a mechanical engineer was probably involved. Mechanical engineering is an engineering field which involves the application of principles of physics for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It also involves the design, construction, and operation of machinery. I have always had a particular interest in the way things work and possibly improving them, or designing something that works better. Mechanical engineering takes not only intelligence and knowledge but imagination and patience. A few famous inventions from mechanical engineers are wind and water turbines, internal combustion engines, and even steam engines. Mechanical engineering requires a good understanding of concepts such as kinematics, thermodynamics, mechanics, and energy, as well as other knowledge in the field to design and analyze aircraft, motor vehicles, aircraft, manufacture plants, machinery, robotics, industrial equipment, and heating and cooling systems. Mechanical engineers work close with laborers communicating different ideas for improvements or easier assembly. Mechanical engineering also requires a fair understanding of fabrication and the assembly process of their designs and projects. Most engineering fields require a certain amount of schooling.
Mechanical engineer degrees typically take four to five years to earn. There are several sub disciplines of mechanical engineering. One of these is called dynamics which is the study of how forces affect moving bodies. Another is called statics. Statics is the study of non moving bodies under known loads. A few other sub disciplines are continuum mechanics, mechanics of materials and, fluid mechanics.
A few of the core concepts are mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics and, energy. Mechanical engineers are paid fairly well. The average starting salary is about $50,236 with a bachelors degree. With a masters degree the starting salary is about $59,880 and $68,299 with a doctorate degree. The median annual income of mechanical engineers in the U.S is about $63,000. That number is higher when working for the government, and lowest when working in general purpose machinery manufacturing in the private sector.
Kinematics is another subdiscipline of mechanical engineering. Kinematics is the study of the motion of bodies and systems, while ignoring the forces that cause the motion. Structural analysis is another sub discipline of mechanical engineering.

Computer engineering is a field of engineering that focuses on the creation and study of computer software and hardware. This field needs training in the field of software design and hardware integration. But it mostly focuses on designing computer hardware. It “emphasizes the design and fabrication of computing devices, the inclusion of computers and real-time systems, and the underlying computer technology involved in computer and communication networks” (www.cse.uconn.edu/cse_ce-desc.htm, paragraph 2). That would be a pretty good explanation of what Computer engineering is.

Computer engineering is a mix between electrical engineering and computer science. Both of these are valuable components of Computer engineering, they are the foundation of it all. They explain the bases of Computer engineering and they can help understand what it is. Electrical engineering helps the Computer engineer learn how the electrical parts throughout the computer work. A good definition of Electrical engineering would be the “process of studying and creating things using electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism” (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/electrical_engineering, paragraph 1). Another important part of Computer engineering is Computer science, and this is because if you don’t know much about computers or Computer science, you should not be a Computer engineer. Computer science helps the Computer engineer learn how to work and process with computers and it would be recommended to know a lot about this science before going into this field. A good definition of Computer science would be “the study and the science of the theoretical foundations of information and computation in computer applications” (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/computer_science, paragraph 1). These things are what makes a Computer engineer strive for success.
The areas of specialization of Computer engineers would be Software publishing, Computer designing, Management of computer devices, Management of companies, Researchers, Computer equipment manufacturing, and Computer data processing.
