We're finalizing design work on our project.

Tuesday - SMET

You have the entire class to work on the SMET project with your group. Remember that each group member is responsible for a 3-view orthographic sketch along with an isometric sketch. 

Each sketch must be labeled and consistant with other sketches.

No fabrication can begin until each group has sketches complete.

SMET Sketches

Before we start building our SMET projects, we need to focus on sketching our ideas.

EACH TEAM MEMBER must submit a multiview orthographic sketch along with a corresponding isometric sketch.

Each item, device, and simple machine must be properly labeled on your sketches wherever they appear. You do not need to include dimensioning on your sketches.

Today, we're continuing on with Simple Machines. We've got another PowerPoint to introduce the second round.

You'll have the rest of class to work on the handout from yesterday.

We're starting unit 4 today. We're going to begin with a PowerPoint on Simple Machines.

Then we'll begin an activity on Simple Machines.

I'll give you the rest of today in class to work on the activity. 

Tomorrow, we'll do something similar.

Engineering Design Process

We're going to begin Unit 3 in the POE circulum today. We have a PowerPoint to kick things off.

Today, I've got a lot of graded papers to return to you.

After that, we're going to do something fun... Kind of...

I'm going to give you some M&M's.

Make a Pie Chart and a Histogram using the number of M&M's for different colors. Refer to the Excel Assignment for reference on making Pie Charts & Histograms.

Print both charts for me by the end of class.

Back to the Career Reports

By now, we should have all completed the Excel Assignement. If you still haven't completed the assignment, it is homework due tomorrow.

We're going to spend a few minutes printing up the 3 graphs from the Excel assignment. After you print them, place your name at the top before you hand them in to me.

For the rest of class today, we're going to revisit the Engineering Career Reports. Like I said a few days ago, the next step is to add job info and college prep info to the reports.

I'm going to be out of the building Tuesday & Wednesday. So here's what's planned for the next 2 days:

Tuesday:

• Continue working on the Excel Assignment.

• Start researching job prospects, salary trends, and college preparation needed for your engineering field career reports.

Technical Writing

...OK... Unit 2, which we are studying now, is all about communication and documentation.

We've finished with our refresher lessons on engineering sketches. We'll have a quiz over sketching on Friday. It will cover all topics covered in the Sketching PowerPoint.

We're going to move onto technical writing today. Let's first take a look at a [drab, brief, pltw] PowerPoint. Sorry...

We'll then be referencing the following documents:

Finishing up Orthographics

We'll spend about half of today finishing the orthographic projection assignments.

After you're done with those assignments, answer the following in a comment to this blog posting:

1.      How do they know Leonardo Da Vinci came up with the concepts of the parachute and helicopter?

2.      The mayor of your town has asked you and two friends to design a sitting area in the town park. He would like to speak with you next week about your concepts. What types of sketches should you bring to the meeting to be sure he understands your ideas?

3.      When working on new concepts and ideas why do you need to keep records?

4.      If you have a CAD system why learn how to sketch?

More Ortho

Today we're going to finish the sketching PowerPoint. Then we're going to start work on Activity 2.1b- more orthographic drawing practice.

Orthographic Drawings

Your perspective sketches are due NOW!!!

We're moving on from perspective and into orthographic sketches.

We're gonna do mo' PowerPoint then get comfy with a few practice excercises. Yum!

Whatever you don't finish in class today, will be due Monday.

1 & 2 Point Perspective

We're going to start today with a review of 1-point perspective.

We're then gonna do a little 2-point perspective.

Assignment Due Friday:

• Activity 2.1a with a 1-point sketch of a hallway and a 2-point sketch of the outside of your house. You must add some degree of shading to each sketch for full credit.
